Stop the pop!
If you can’t give up your diet pop, listen up: Data analyzed from over 2500 participants links daily diet drinks with an increased risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke.
Published in Journal of General Internal Medicine – the study found that people who drink diet soft drinks on a daily basis could be at a 43% increased risk of vascular events over those who drank none – but they didn’t find the risk for those who drank regular pop.
However, researchers added that previous studies have linked both diet and regular soft drinks with diabetes and metabolic syndrome, whilst regular soft drinks have been associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease.
Try this to give up your pop: actually taste it. Leave it in your mouth. Swish it around. Can you taste the chemicals? Now, swallow. How does your mouth feel? Slimy? Is there a burning sensation? And how's your breath? Sweet or sour?
After your pop, take a moment to check in with your body. Do you have a buzz? Can you focus? Heart palpitations? Is your thirst quenched or are you thirsty again?
Being mindful when we eat and drink can help us decide what really is good for us.
Until next time,
Let's all walk the talk!
