Daily health tip #31
Still with me?
Well, here we are at the end of January. Pundits say that most people have dropped their resolutions and forgotten their intentions by this point. How are you doing?
One of my intentions was to post a health tip every day in January to help you stay on track with your goals. Now that I’ve done it, I can admit that I made this intention without forethought, and it kind of flew directly into my fingers and onto the keyboard without spending any time being considered by my brain. And yet, the commitment was out there, for all the world to see.
What I learned from the experience is that telling people you are going to do something makes it a lot more likely to happen. There was many-a-time that I didn’t know where I’d find the energy to write creatively after getting all my other daily projects done – and, yet, I did because I said I would. So, sometimes ego is a good thing, keeping us on track with our soul purpose!
I’ve learned that some intentions, like agreeing to post daily, could use some planning ahead so there’s a strategy or plan to follow – and less of a risk of blogger’s block! I’ve also learned that I have some interesting thoughts in my head, and that other people respond to them.
I’ve learned, as well, that I can’t keep it up. Writing a full blog daily is a very demanding proposition. But, I have learned that I am capable of producing more than I have in the past, and my new intention going forward is to blog several times a week.
If you’ve been following along with the tip-a-day, you’ll likely notice there were contingencies built right in for those days when you forgot yourself and fell into old habits before you noticed, or found yourself doubting your ability to succeed. Guess why they’re there? Because we all go through those challenges. Even me. I’ve reminded myself of another one of my goals (to honour my body with exercise at least three times a week) about 31 days in a row. In the 4 weeks since New Year’s eve, I already haven’t been completely successful. (I wish I could blame the exercise-free days on the added pressure of daily blogging, but that would simply not be truthful!)
Yet, I do know that change isn’t an all or nothing proposition. If creating and sustaining new habits were easy, we’d do it all the time. So, going forward in 2012, remember Tip #16: you can start over at any time – and several times a day. Focus on the prize, by following Tip #12. Forget the nay-sayers, as Tip #22 reminds you. And most importantly, remember Tip #20: Love your body first, and then everything else is easy!
Until next time,
Let’s keep walking the talk!
Lisa
