DAILY HEALTH TIP #29

Get out of your own way!

Most of the shadows of this life are caused by our standing in our own sunshine. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

As I watch my daughter grow up and make her first decisions as a young adult, I’m so proud to see her make choices despite her fear. She’s decided to study abroad next year, for her third year of university. It’s an amazing opportunity to study and travel in Europe, and anyone past a certain age knows that it gets increasingly difficult to experience such freedoms as we get older and the obligations set in. She’s made the choice in spite of her concerns about getting homesick and being so far away from her Mom. And as her Mom, I feel all the same concerns but know, as she does, that you get nowhere in life – and you do nothing, either – if you let yourself be ruled by your fear.
Now, my daughter’s upcoming experience is a big one. But how many times a day do you let your fear hold you back? Perhaps you’d like to talk to your boss about a raise but are worried how the conversation might go. Or, with Valentine’s day around the corner, you may have romance on the mind but are afraid to share your feelings with the object of your desire. Is it time for a career change? Is your relationship over? Are you thinking about buying a house? Taking a French class? Painting your bedroom your favourite colour?
Decide what you’d like to do. Then do it. What’s the worst thing that could happen? You could fail. Is that really so bad? You’ve failed before and you’re still breathing.
You could also succeed. And it could be life-changing. Stop creating shadows in your life.
Get out of your own way!
Until tomorrow
Let’s all walk the talk
