DAILY HEALTH TIP #24

I see you!

I’m sure that at some point in your life, you’ve played peek-a-boo with a toddler. There’s nothing more delightful to a little one than to see your face suddenly appear from behind your hands, a sofa or blanket. The feeling of connection when you lock eyes is priceless.
I think it’s a feeling we never outgrow – even though we certainly undervalue the experience. How many times do you go about your day, being served by or serving others at the bank, grocery store or gas station, and never make eye contact with the human on the other side of the transaction? It’s become habit to keep our heads down and hurry through the deed – as if it takes so much longer to lift our heads and look each other in the eye.
And yet, when we do ‘see’ the person in front of us, there is an immediate sense of connection and compassion. There’s a feeling like “we’re in this together.” I think it’s something to cherish rather than avoid. Maybe if we focused on creating connections more often, we wouldn’t all feel so alone.
Make it a personal goal to look people in the eye, no matter how busy your schedule. I’m sure I could scour journals and find health benefits to support the suggestion, but let’s just leave it at this:  you’ll feel better!
Let me know how it works out for you!
Until tomorrow,
Let’s all walk the talk
Lisa
