Daily health tip #22
None of my business
I think the first time I heard it, it was Dr. Wayne Dyer’s voice inspiring me from a cassette tape. Now that I’ve dated myself, I’ll share the life-changing words he spoke: what you think of me is none of my business.
He was referring to the power that we give other people who judge our decisions and actions. He was referring to the fact that not everyone will like you, and even those who love you may not (will not) always agree with you. And while you may want to give some consideration to the words of those who love you unconditionally when they express concern or ask for clarity about your choices, there are others in this world whose opinions of you are frankly none of your business.
Those opinions might be that you are insane, or a tree-hugger, or too enthusiastic, or too ambitious, or that you see the glass as half full when the cup, to them, is nearly bone dry. The opinion could be that you’ll never “do it/succeed” because you never have in your many attempts before now. Likewise, the opinion could be that following your dream and living your passion is selfish. Pshaw!
Remember that any voice you hear that deflates you does not serve you. Any opinions about you that are not supportive of your dreams and visions are opinions you don’t need to hear, and therefore, none of your business.
It’s an incredibly empowering thought to keep tucked into that place where you hide your insecurities about being liked or having the approval of others. What you think of me is none of my business. (In other words, “thanks for having an opinion about me, but, please, keep it to yourself.”)
Until tomorrow
Let’s all walk the talk!
