Daily health tip #21
Feelin’ good.
If you heard today’s show with fitness expert Bruce Krahn, you know we chatted about how holding a vision of your goal is often not sufficient motivation to help you achieve it. Instead, success is more likely if we connect emotion to our goals.
For example if your goal is to create 6 pack abs or look great in a bathing suit, it’s not enough to tack a picture of an ideal physique – yours or someone else’s – on the refrigerator. Instead, it’s important to imagine how you will feel when you’re successful. You might imagine that you will feel energetic, proud, strong, confident or celebratory when you’ve achieved the goal. When you envision yourself achieving the goal, allow yourself to experience those emotions in the present. Associating the vision of your goal with positive emotions is certainly more motivating than associating the goal with feelings of deprivation, denial or frustration. (If the thought of pursuing your goal makes you feel miserable, how enthusiastically do you think you will pursue it?)
Whether your goal involves the health of your body, your relationship, your finances or another aspect of your life, the same strategy of connecting with positive emotions applies.
Give it a try and let me know how it works out for you.
Until tomorrow
Let’s all walk the talk!
